Step into the Rhythm, Stay for the Vibes

The South Side Kizomba Social is a one-day celebration of Kizomba, a beautiful and grounded partner dance with roots in Angola. This special event creates space for dancers of all levels to come together, grow their practice, and connect through movement and music.

We aim to increase the visibility of Kizomba on the South Side of Chicago, honor the cultural and historical roots of this African dance form, and connect that celebration to our broader mission of amplifying voices of the African Diaspora through dance, storytelling, and community engagement.

Part 1: Kizomba Intensive

Time: 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Cost: $60
Instructor: Nii Takuma

Whether you’re just starting out or refining your skills, this 3-hour Kizomba Intensive is a chance to develop your technique, musicality, and partner communication with expert instructor Nii Takuma.

You’ll explore:

Traditional Kizomba foundations and rhythm
Body movement and grounded footwork
Connection, frame, and social dance etiquette
Confidence and presence on the dance floor

The Intensive is open to all levels and provides a culturally respectful introduction or deepening experience in Kizomba.

Part 2: Kizomba Social

Time: 7:00 PM – 10:30 PM
Cost: $15
Music by: DJ Kimani Rashad

After the Intensive, come back for the Kizomba Social—an evening of dancing, connection, and celebration. This is your chance to practice your skills, meet new people, and enjoy the music in a supportive, community-centered environment.

The Social will feature:

Traditional Kizomba music curated by DJ Kimani Rashad
A relaxed and welcoming space—no partner needed
Good vibes, great music, and even better people
